RESET: When God Knocks You Down to Lift You Up
Scripture Focus: Acts 9:1–19 – The Conversion of Saul
Have you ever felt like life knocked you flat? Maybe it wasn’t a literal fall, but a moment when everything you thought you understood was suddenly turned upside down.
That’s exactly what happened to Saul on the road to Damascus — a man so sure of himself, so confident in his own righteousness, that Jesus had to stop him in his tracks and reset his life.
A Sudden Stop on the Road to Damascus
Saul wasn’t looking for Jesus — but Jesus was looking for Saul.
In one blinding moment, God interrupted his plans, stripped away his vision, and made him completely dependent. For three days Saul sat in darkness, helpless and waiting, until a faithful man named Ananias showed up to deliver a message of hope:
“The Lord… has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 9:17)
Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes. His sight was restored, and his life would never be the same.
The Desert Is Where God Does His Deepest Work
After his conversion, Saul (later called Paul) didn’t rush into ministry. Scripture tells us he spent three years in Arabia — the desert — learning directly from Jesus (Galatians 1:17–18).
It was there, in isolation and humility, that his reset became real.
The desert seasons of our lives aren’t punishments; they’re preparation.
They are where we learn to depend on God, to be refined, to listen more than we speak. Sometimes God takes us into the wilderness not to break us, but to rebuild us.
From Religion to Relationship
Before the Damascus road, Saul was a man of religion — well-trained, respected, zealous. But religion couldn’t save him. He had to encounter relationship.
When Jesus spoke, Saul discovered that faith isn’t about performance; it’s about surrender.
We can spend years walking in the wrong direction, thinking we’re doing the right thing, until God interrupts us and turns us around. That turning — that repentance — is our reset.
It’s not about behavior modification or acting “nice.” It’s about transformation.
It’s about bringing all your brokenness, pride, and pain right to Jesus and letting Him make you new.
The Call to Obedience
The first thing Saul did after receiving his sight was to be baptized.
That’s the mark of obedience — a public declaration that the old life is gone, and a new one has begun.
Every true reset with God leads to action: repentance, obedience, and boldness to live for Christ no matter the cost.
Like Paul, we may face opposition, misunderstanding, or even persecution for standing for Jesus. But when we’ve truly been changed, we can’t help but speak His name.
Resetting Our Hearts Today
Maybe your life feels stuck in neutral. Maybe you’ve drifted from your purpose, or maybe pride, hurt, or exhaustion has blurred your vision.
The same Jesus who met Saul on the road wants to meet you today. He still specializes in resetting lives.
Let Him knock down your defenses so He can raise you up in His strength.
Let Him take your blindness and give you new sight.
Let Him turn your story around — not just for your sake, but so others can see His power at work in you.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Diana
